This Cookie Policy explains how GeoPin uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit our website at geopin.nl. It should be read in conjunction with our Privacy Policy.

We believe in minimal data collection. GeoPin does not use advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels or any cross-site tracking technologies. The cookies and storage mechanisms we use are limited to those strictly necessary for the functioning and security of our service.

2. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, improve functionality and provide information to the website operator. Cookies can be "persistent" (stored until a set expiry date) or "session" (deleted when you close your browser).

In addition to cookies, websites may use other browser storage mechanisms such as localStorage and sessionStorage. These function similarly to cookies but are not automatically sent with HTTP requests.

3. Our Approach

GeoPin takes a privacy-first approach to cookies:

No tracking cookies. We do not use cookies for advertising, user profiling or cross-site tracking.
No cookie banner needed. Because we only use strictly necessary cookies (as defined by the ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC and the Dutch implementation, the Telecommunications Act), we do not need your consent to set these cookies. We provide this policy for transparency.
Privacy-first analytics. Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies and does not track individual users. It collects only aggregated, anonymous data.

5. Local Storage

In addition to cookies, GeoPin uses your browser's localStorage mechanism for the following purposes:

localStorage data is not automatically sent to our servers with each request (unlike cookies). It is read by client-side JavaScript in your browser. You can view and clear localStorage data at any time via your browser's developer tools or settings.

6. Third-Party Cookies

6.1 Cloudflare Web Analytics

Cloudflare Web Analytics is a privacy-focused analytics solution that:

Does not use cookies.
Does not collect personal data.
Does not track users across websites.
Does not fingerprint browsers.
Collects only aggregated data such as page views, referrals and country-level statistics.

6.2 What We Do Not Use

For the avoidance of doubt, GeoPin does not use any of the following:

Google Analytics or any Google tracking services.
Facebook Pixel, Meta tracking or any social media tracking pixels.
Advertising cookies or retargeting technologies from any provider.
Sessionherhaling- of heatmapdiensten.
Cross-domain tracking of any kind.
Browser fingerprinting (other than what is inherent in Cloudflare's bot management).

7. Managing Cookies

Although GeoPin only uses strictly necessary cookies for which no consent is required, you retain full control over cookies on your device.

7.1 Browser Settings

You can configure your browser to block or delete cookies. Instructions for popular browsers:

Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data
Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and site data
Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data
Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Cookies and site data

7.2 Clearing Local Storage

To clear GeoPin's localStorage data:

Open your browser's developer tools (usually F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I / Cmd+Option+I).
Go to the Application or Storage tab.
Select "Local Storage" and find the geopin.nl entry.
Delete the individual keys or clear all local storage for the site.

7.3 Consequences of Blocking Cookies

If you block Cloudflare's strictly necessary cookies, you may experience issues accessing the GeoPin website, including repeatedly having to complete security challenges or being unable to submit forms. Core API functionality (authenticated API requests) does not depend on browser cookies.

8. Changes to This Policy

We will update this Cookie Policy if we change the cookies or browser storage we use. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
