Nijmegen Geolocation

Upload the photo and GeoPin compares it against 90,000 indexed street images from Nijmegen. You get back the coordinates, the address and the postcode of the most likely spot, together with the reference images the match is based on so you can check it yourself. No GPS data in the file is needed.

Start by checking whether the file still holds EXIF location data, which takes seconds. Messaging apps and social platforms strip it, so it usually will not. When it is gone, the content of the photo is what remains: GeoPin reads that content and matches it against street imagery of Nijmegen rather than relying on metadata.

90,000 indexed images, covering 58 square kilometres, which works out at roughly 95 percent of the built-up area of Nijmegen. Density is highest along public roads, since that is where the source imagery was captured.

Coverage spans the whole municipality rather than a selection of districts. That includes Binnenstad & Waalkade, Dukenburg & Lindenholt, Lent & Waalsprong, Hatert & Neerbosch and Heyendaal & Brakkenstein, and the residential streets and industrial estates in between, which is exactly where a landmark-based tool tends to fail.

On a distinctive street with a clear view of the facades, the match usually lands within a few metres. Accuracy drops where the surroundings repeat themselves, such as uniform new-build estates or an unbroken row of identical frontages, and in those cases the result comes back as a wider area rather than a single point.
